Who is Alpha Guyasa?

A full-stack engineer in Addis Ababa working across web, Android and AI retrieval. Most of my work targets one constraint: bad connectivity. Offline-first ledgers, point-of-sale that keeps selling through a blackout, and retrieval systems that cite their sources or say nothing.

In development

Mezgeb – Offline mobile-money ledger for Ethiopian shops

Small shops in Ethiopia take payment through mobile money and bank apps, and the confirmations arrive as notifications nobody reconciles against who owes the shop.

375 unit tests on the Play flavor, 382 on the sideload flavor, 83 on the parser module.
No INTERNET permission in either flavor, checked against the merged release manifest.

Suq – Offline-first point of sale and inventory

A shop till has to keep selling when the internet and the power go out, and two offline tablets must not overwrite each other's sales when they reconnect.

A sale writes to IndexedDB in one transaction and never touches the network.
A sync test suite covers the five failure modes that only appear across multiple devices, including two tablets selling the last unit while offline.

Under active development. CI passes on every merge; no public deployment is linked from the repo.

DocSearch answering a question about webhook signatures, each claim followed by a citation to its source document

DocSearch → Not Alone – Cited answers from documents, now pivoting to a scripture app

Question answering over documents is only useful if every claim can be traced to a source, and if the system refuses when the documents do not cover the question.

91 human-reviewed evaluation questions.
One of four LLM judges validated against human labels: Cohen's kappa 0.80 on a random sample.

NullChat – Peer-to-peer messaging with no network

People need to exchange messages during blackouts, in dead zones and during shutdowns, when there is no network at all.

231 JVM unit tests passing.

Meret – Offline maps and GPS logging for field teams

Field teams in low-connectivity regions run on paper forms, separate GPS units and map apps that degrade off-network, and supervisors cannot see where a team went or what it recorded.

Phases 1–4 of the build plan are done: skeleton, core model, database, location engine.

ethiopic-text – Search and normalization for Ethiopic script

Ethiopic has homophone consonants that writers use interchangeably, so the same word is spelled two ways and string search silently misses one of them.

Zero runtime dependencies; the core is 0.49 KB gzipped.
100% coverage.
